Detailed Itinerary – 9 Days Uganda safari

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After very early morning breakfast, your driver/guide will pick you up to start your safari journey to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest park and home to 451 bird species and 76 mammal species. Along the way, you will view lots of sightings with a stop for a lunch break in Masindi. After, continue with your journey to the park and on reaching, you will first visit the top of the waterfalls where the water of the Nile River forces its way through an 8m crevice and drops nearly 45 meters, and the ground there actually shakes due to the great power. You will also be impressed by the formation of the rainbow in this very place. Thereafter continuing to your lodge and check-in, have dinner and an overnight stay at Paraa Safari Lodge / Chobe Safari Lodge (Luxury) or Fort Murchison /Pakuba Safari Lodge (Mid-range).

Day 2: Murchison Game drive and the Nile Boat cruise

Have a good breakfast and head out for a game drive which will be an opportunity to see animals like elephants, buffalos, bushbucks, giraffes, cobs, lions, and leopards to mention but a few. Take photos that you will keep for memories. Return to the lodge for lunch as you get ready for the boat cruise on the Kazinga channel.

The boat trip will take you to the bottom of the falls for you to get up close and personal with various animals like the hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, waterbucks, and a number of birds such as the storks, fish eagle among others. Here, you will as enjoy the beautiful Murchison falls-take as many pictures as you wish. Back to your lodge for dinner and Overnight

Day 3: Transfer from Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest National Park

It’s breakfast then check out to head to Kibale National Park. You will have lunch in Fort Portal then continue in the great views of the Rwenzori ranges. On reaching, check-in at Ndali lodge / Primate Lodge / Kyaninga Lodge (upmarket) or Chimp Nest / Mountains of the moon (Midrange).

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up very early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters, where you will be briefed about chimpanzee trekking. Kibale is known for different primates and several crater lakes within Uganda. Start the search for the exciting chimps and once you encounter them, you will be allowed just an hour with them to see their behavior-how they feed their young ones, play. In addition, you will find other primates like the black and white colobus monkeys, Red-tailed, Lhotse, and grey-checked mangabeys not missing several birds. After lunch, check out to head to Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will arrive in the late afternoon. Dinner and night at Mweya safari lodge / Katara Lodge (Upmarket) or Bush lodge/Ihamba Safari Lodge / Twin Lakes Lodge (Mid-range)

Day 5: Game drive & Launch cruise – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, go for the game drive through the Kasenyi plains in search of wildlife including;  lions, elephants, antelopes, buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, and bird species where it is said that Queen Elizabeth has the highest concentration of bird species then various shrubs and forests. After, go back to the lodge for lunch. At 2 pm, go for a launch cruise on the Kazinga channel, and here you’ll have spectacular views of schools of hippos, a number of crocodiles, water birds, and beautiful plants among others. After, retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Enjoy your breakfast then say bye to Bwindi via the Ishasha sector where the famous tree-climbing lions can be sighted. Bwindi National Park is unique in that it’s home to over 346 bird species, 120 mammal species, 400 plant species, and 27 frog species among others, and is covering an area of 331 sq km. You will stop on the way for lunch and then continue whilst having beautiful scenes of banana, tea plantations, and the overall green vegetation of the area. On reaching Bwindi, check-in at Buhoma Lodge / Silverback Lodge (Luxury) or Mahogany Springs / Chameleon Hill / Gorilla Mist Camp (Midrange).

Day 7: Gorilla tracking and Community walk – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

It’s breakfast then step out to head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch. You will be briefed on the dos and don’ts while tracking the gorillas. The trekking through the mist rain forest is strenuous and can take between 6-8 hours based on the location of the gentle giants. Once you find the gorillas, you will be permitted only one hour with the gorillas. Return to the lodge and rest.

Later in the evening, continue for a nature walk where you will visit the Batwa, which is an indigenous group of people that have lived in the forest for many years, and enjoy traditional dances from them. Head back to the lodge for Dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, check out then set off to Lake Mburo National Park through Kigezi and Ankole in views of terraced hills, forests, and banana plantations among others. Have a stop for lunch in Mbarara and continue to Lake Mburo. It harbors various bird species and a number of animals for example Zebras, impalas, warthogs, topis, waterbucks, buffaloes, and reedbucks among others. Later in the day, you will have a boat cruise on the lake where your eyes will be fed with lots of wonders like birds, crocodiles, hippos, and zebras among others. Dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge / Mantana Tented Camp (Luxury) or Lake Mburo Safari Lodge / Acardia Cottages (Mid-range)/

Day 9: Return to Kampala

Early morning after breakfast, head to Jinja the home of the source of the River Nile. On your way, you will have a stop at Ssezibwa falls which is believed to have been born by a woman. From here you will continue to the Mabira forest the only rainforest in Uganda. Continue to Jinja town where you have your lunch and then go for an afternoon boat ride to the source of the river Nile. Leave for Kampala, dinner, and overnight.

Have a relaxed breakfast and leave for an early game drive. There you will see numerous zebras, Impalas, warthogs, and antelopes. Proceed with your journey to Kampala and you will stop for lunch on the way then at the Equator for souvenir shopping, the water experiment, and photos, arriving in Kampala in the evening or if your flight is on the same day, you will be driven straight to the airport.
