Detailed Itinerary: 13 Days Uganda Wildlife and Primates safari

Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Kidepo Valley National Park

On your first day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and by 6:30 am you should be prepared and ready to embark on your journey out of Kampala to Kidepo Valley National Park. On your way, you will pass through several towns and you will be able to see how Ugandans spend their daily lives. In case of any questions, your wildlife safari guide will offer you answers as well as explanations. You will have a one-hour lunch en route in Gulu town and afterwards, you will proceed on your journey north to Kitgum town which is approximately 139km away from Kidepo Valley national park

Day 2: Free morning and evening game drive

Wake up for morning breakfast and afterwards relax at the hotel. After lunch, get ready for an evening game drive in the plains of Kidepo. This game drive will take you to Kakine circuit which is close to Apoka and offers you a great game viewing opportunity whereby you will be able to see wildlife species such as Buffaloes, giraffes, elands, Jackson’s hartebeests, warthogs, zebras and many more animals. For bird lovers, you will as well see several bird species during your game drive and later retire to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning game drive in Narus Valley

After an early morning breakfast, you will meet your driver as well as the guide and then embark on a morning game drive which takes you to Narus valley which has magnificent gentle rolling hills, fresh grass and water holes starting from Mount Morungole. While at Narus valley, you will be able to see a variety of wildlife species which it hosts including lions, Elephants, zebras, cheetahs, buffalos, warthogs and many more animals. You will as well be able to spot all the unique birds in the Narus valley. Later on, return to the hotel for lunch and relaxation.

Day 4: Cultural visit

An early morning breakfast will be served and afterwards, you will go for a cultural visit to the Karamojong community where you will be able to interact with both the Karamojong and IK people who are closely related to the Maasai people of Kenya, you will be able to see their unique homesteads, explore their nomadic lifestyle, cultural songs and dance which will be performed to entertain you. Later retire to the hotel for lunch and relax as dinner will be served later in the night.

Day 5: Transfer to Murchison

From Kidepo Valley National Park, our driver will pick you up after breakfast and check out of your lodge to transfer you to Murchison Falls National park. You will have a stopover in Gulu town for a lunch break. After relaxing and having your lunch, you will then have to proceed to Murchison falls national park. Upon arrival in the evening, check-in and spend your evening relaxing.

Day 6: Early morning game drive and Evening boat cruise

In the morning after breakfast, your guide will be ready to take you for a morning game drive which will expose you to the sightings of both wildlife species and bird species including Elephants, Lions, and Leopards, Giraffes, Kobs, Buffaloes and primates such as baboons and many other animals. After the game drive, you will return to the hotel for lunch and freshen up. Afterwards in the evening, you will go for an evening boat cruise at the bottom of the falls where you will be able to witness the sunset as well as view a variety of water animals and later transfer back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Afternoon boat cruise and Hiking to the top of the falls

You will have breakfast and relax at the hotel. Later in the afternoon after lunch, you will transfer for the boat cruise at the bottom of the world’s most powerful waterfalls along the Victoria Nile where you will have a magnificent view of several aquatic species on the river banks. After some time, you will then start hiking at the top of the falls which offers scenic views and a great photographic experience. Later transfer back to the hotel for dinner and a night stay.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi with a stopover in Queen for an overnight

After an early morning meal, check out of your rooms with packed lunch, and meet the driver who will transfer you from Murchison falls national park to Bwindi Impenetrable national park along the way, you will have a glimpse of scenic crater lakes. You have a stopover at Queen overnight and you proceed with your journey to Bwindi the next day.

Day 9: Transfer from Queen to Bwindi

After your morning Breakfast, Check out of your rooms with your belongings and go for a game drive in the Ishasha sector where you will be able to view the tree-climbing lions lying up in the branches of huge fig trees and other wildlife species. After the game drive, you will proceed to Bwindi with packed lunch.

Day 10: Gorilla trekking

Wake up in the morning, take a good breakfast and with your packed Lunch, meet with your ranger guide before setting off into the gorilla sanctuary. The rainforest landscape is steep and densely populated with trees hence it requires physical fitness. The park consists of several trails allowing access for tourists in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. The trek to find the earth’s gentle giants can take up to a full day, however, the pleasure of discovering these gentle giants in their own habitat is regarded as one of Africa’s best wildlife viewing experiences. You will be allowed to spend one hour with the Gorillas. After tracking, relax and later retire to your lodge as you wait for dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 10: Batwa community tour

Wake up in the morning, have your breakfast and embark on your Batwa community tour where you Experience the Batwa village life of old, the sharing, of living as a community, as a people, learn the things that they revered and cared for and almost lost. This is one of the most memorable cultural experiences. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Buhoma community walks

The Walk starts at Buhoma Community Rest Camp in the company of your guide and is very informative, as well as rewarding. You will be amazed at how resourceful these local residents are as you personally observe and learn about their lifestyle. The First stop is seeing women make handicrafts while others weave baskets at the community crafts centre there you can buy some of these and this will greatly be appreciated.
