Detailed Itinerary – 10 Days Uganda wildlife and primates Safari

Day 1: Transfer from Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park

At 6:30 am in the morning, you will head to the western part of Uganda on a 5-6hrs drive to Kibale Forest National Park via Fort-portal. Expect this journey to be an interesting one as your English-speaking driver will do his best so that you enjoy the journey through the Ugandan countryside. It is a scenic road trip which will manifest the natural beauty of Uganda and why it was branded as the Pearl of Africa. Arrive in Fort Portal in the afternoon and have a lunch break. After lunch, proceed with your journey to Kibale Forest national park which is part of one of the great African moist evergreen rainforest research reserves, it is famous due to its large population of primates and it is a known area for birds. Arrive at Kibale Forest in the late afternoon, and prepare for the afternoon Bigodi walk. Dinner and overnight will be at your booked lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and nature walk

Breakfast will be served early in the morning, and afterwards, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on how to track the chimps since they live in communities of about 100 individuals. When you encounter one of the communities of chimpanzees, you will see how they behave and you will realize there is a lot we share in common with them. Check out more primates such as the golden monkey, olive baboons, red Colobus, white and black Colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey and blue monkeys. After going back to the lodge for lunch and in the late afternoon, you will go for a guided nature walk in Bigodi sanctuary (Magombe swamp). There are diverse birdlife, butterflies and tree species. The Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek are among the 137 bird species. Return later in the evening to your lodge, dine and rest.

Day 3: Transfer from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth Park

From your lodge in Kibale Forest National Park, you will have a relaxed breakfast and then embark on your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive lasted 3- 4 hours driving past several plantations and scenic crater lakes. On arrival at the park, you will have lunch and relax. Later go out for an evening game drive. The game drive offers you a chance to see abundant wildlife species in their natural habitat such as African Elephants, Kobs, Buffaloes and a variety of bird species including Kingfishers, Collared pratincoles, Palm-nut vultures, Shoebill storks, and Swamp flycatchers. In the evening, return to your hotel/lodge for dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Morning game drive in Kasenyi trails and Evening boat cruise on the Kazinga channel

Enjoy your morning breakfast then proceed for a morning Game drive in the Kasenyi plains. While at Kasenyi plains, you will explore a variety of wildlife including Elephants, Buffaloes, Topi, warthogs, Hyenas, lions, and several bird species. The game drive will take approximately 4 hours and endeavour to carry a bottle of drinking water, binoculars and a camera. After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch and refreshments. In the late afternoon, you will head out for the Kazinga channel boat cruise. This is a great chance of seeing several aquatic species like crocodiles and hippos alongside other wildlife and waterbird species on the river banks. With these amazing encounters, retire back to your lodge where you will spend the night and have dinner.

Day 5: Transfer from Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi

On the fifth day of your trip, breakfast will be served early in the morning before heading out to the Ishasha sector in the southern part of the park. You will spend approximately 4 hours while on a game drive in search of tree-climbing lions which lay up in the fig trees and other wild animals. After the game drive, you will have a lunch break in the Ishasha sector and afterwards embark on your transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will arrive in the evening, check-in, refresh, have dinner and spend the night at your booked lodge in Bwindi.

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing on the rules and regulations in respect of gorilla trekking from the park warden. During the briefing, only 8 tourists are allowed per gorilla family during the trek, tourists are always accompanied by an experienced park ranger and the trek starts depending on the location where the gorillas spent their previous night. When you encounter the gorillas, you can only spend approximately 1 hour in the presence of these gentle giants for photography and amazing moments. After the trek, you return to the park headquarters where you receive a gorilla trekking certificate. Afterwards, return to your lodge for dinner and night relaxation.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After an early morning meal, check out of your lodge and meet your safari driver to transfer you to Lake Bunyonyi. While at Lake Bunyonyi, you will explore different islands with an experienced local guide while on a boat cruise and you will get to learn a lot about the 29 islands some of which are inhabited and others are uninhabited, tribes of people that live around the lake. You will have a memorable experience as you enjoy the scenic view, and you will be able to spot a variety of water birds and some migratory birds. Return to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Mburo

From Lake Bunyonyi, you will have breakfast and then embark on a drive to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive lasts about 5-6 hours. Arriving in the afternoon, you have lunch and prepare for an evening game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. On this game drive, the possible sightings include Zebras, Impalas, Common Eland, African Buffalo, Oribi, Waterbuck, reedbuck, Topi, and many more. Some of the bird species include the Bateleur, Coqui Francolin, Grey Crowned Crane, Rufous Bellied Heron, and many more. After the game drive, you will be driven to your booked lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 9: Transfer to Entebbe and an evening boat cruise 

On this last day of your Uganda safari, you will have breakfast and then head out for a nature walking safari. Lake Mburo is known to be free from carnivores and therefore offers a very unique experience with a walk so close to nature. After the nature walk, you then have lunch and start the drive to Entebbe. You will most probably arrive in Entebbe in the evening. On arrival, you will refresh and go for an evening boat cruise on Lake Victoria as you relax and appreciate nature as you witness the sunset.

Day 10: Transfer to Airport

Depending on your scheduled flight back home, breakfast will be served and afterwards, your safari driver will drop you off at the Airport.
