Detailed Itinerary: 4 Days Gorilla Trek Rwanda

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National park

Depending on your arrival time at Kigali International Airport, Enjoy Safaris representative/ driver will welcome you into the Land of a Thousand Hills as well as take you on a brief city tour in Kigali. You will have a lunch break in Kigali and afterwards, you will proceed with your road trip which is a 2 hours drive to Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, check in your booked hotel, relax for the rest of the day until dinner is served and spend the night.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’iwacu Cultural village tour

On this big day, you will wake up to a nice morning meal and afterwards head to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking before you proceed into the dense forest in search of the world’s gentle giants. After the briefing, you will go for gorilla trekking alongside experienced park rangers and guides whereby when you come face to face with the gorillas, you are allowed to spend only 1 hour observing them while feeding and playing around at a safer distance as you capture these overwhelming moments. After the trek, you will head back to the hotel just in time for lunch and after lunch, you will go for the Iby’iwacu Cultural village tour where you will be able to explore Rwanda’s culture the dances, songs, storytelling and will visit the king’s palace where you will get to know more about their cultural ancient rulers. Return to the hotel before sunset for dinner and spend the night.

Day 3: Mount Bisoke Hike

Following an early morning breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters for a briefing from the park rangers and afterwards you will be transferred to the starting point and proceed with trekking to the peak of Mount Bisoke which is approximately a 7 hours hike. Alongside armed park rangers and porters, you will hike through levelled rocky and rough ground and during the hike, you will be able to spot a variety of bird species and primates until you get to the top of Mount Bisoke where you will be awarded a magnificent clear view of the park, the Mount Visoke crater lake, the great landscape, Mount Karisimbi and Mount Mikeno. You will have a picnic lunch at the top of Mount Bisoke and afterwards, you will descend back to the starting point and proceed back to the hotel where you will have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden monkey tracking and return to Kigali

On this last day of the safari, you will wake up early in the morning and have breakfast before you go for Golden monkey tracking in the high-altitude forest of the Virunga Volcanoes. You will go for a briefing at the park headquarters and after head into the forest in search of these endangered and unique primates when you encounter them, will are allowed to observe them for approximately one hour in their natural habitat in the bamboo vegetation at the foothills of the park as you take their photos. After some time, return to the hotel for lunch, prepare yourselves, check out of the hotel and meet your driver to transfer you to Kigali either at the hotel or you will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport depending on the time of your flight back home.
