Detailed Itinerary: 3 Days Safari in Meru National Park

Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Meru national park

You will be picked up by your safari driver from either the Airport or hotel in Nairobi. You will be transferred to Meru National park, you will arrive in the afternoon since it is a 5 hours road trip and on your way, you will enjoy the scenery of the beautiful countryside and views of Mount Kenya. Upon arrival, you will check in at your booked hotel, and afterward, lunch will be served. Relax for some time and depart for an evening game drive in the wide-open plains as well as the gently rolling plains of the park. During the game drive, you will be able to view a variety of wildlife and mammals including all the notable members of the African big 5, Grevy zebras, hippos, hartebeests, Elands, Gazelles, puff adders, and many more. Retire back to the hotel in the late evening for dinner and rest.

Day 2: Full day exploring Meru National Park

After an early morning breakfast, meet your driver/guide with your packed lunch and depart for birding watching around Tana River and nearby swamps where you will have a clear view of a variety of prolific bird species including the Eastern chanting goshawk, Hartlaub’s bustard, Somali ostrich, Long-tailed fiscal, Yellow-billed duck, crowned crane, doves, woodpeckers, sunbirds, secretary birds and many more. You will visit the grave site of Elsa the lioness to pay your respect and afterward you will have a lunch break. After lunch, you will go for a cultural experience in the communities of the Meru people famously known as Ngaa people who speak Kimiiru language who are predominantly agriculturalists. You will get to know more about the rich lifestyle of these people, and how they are connected to the park. Return late in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Nairobi

Before you depart for Nairobi, you will meet your safari guide and park rangers immediately after breakfast and go for an early morning guided nature walk and explore the territory of the local wildlife which offers an insight into African nature, wildlife, and a variety of bird species. During a nature walk, you will be able to spot a variety of both wild animals and bird species at a close range for a clear view and photography. After returning to the hotel, freshen up, check out of the lodge with your luggage and depart for Nairobi. Your drive will either drop you at your reserved hotel in Nairobi or at Nairobi International Airport.
