1 day Ngorongoro crater safari is a half-day excursion in the world’s famous largest inactive and intact unfilled volcanic caldera which was famously branded as the seventh natural wonder of Africa. Ngorongoro crater is situated in Ngorongoro district, west of Arusha city within the crater highlands geological area of northern Tanzania.

Ngorongoro crater is a spectacular safari destination in Africa that formed its own ecosystem since it is a natural sanctuary for some of the densest populations of large mammals in Africa which is definitely worth visiting. During this safari, you will be able to explore the natural beauty of Ngorongoro crater of wonderfully lush green landscapes, dazzling highland plains and savannah woodlands, shallow soda lakes which host extraordinarily beautiful bright pink flocks of Flamingos and it has a high concentration of wildlife hence it was later referred to as ‘’the Garden of Eden’’. You will have a half-day game drive in this crater and you will spot a diverse number of wildlife including the pride of lions, herds of zebras, wildebeests, cape buffaloes, Flamingos, hippos, and many more. Lastly, you will visit Lake Magadi for birding.

Detailed itinerary: 1 Day Ngorongoro Crater Safari

Day 1: Transfer from Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater

You will be picked up by your safari driver/guide from Kilimanjaro International Airport, Arusha Airport, or your hotel in Arusha depending on your location. Depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation area and on your way, if lucky you will be able to spot wildebeests and zebras. Upon arrival at Ngorongoro conservation area, you will first sign in and then proceed into the caldera through a lush highland forest, you will descend up to the crater floor which is 2000 feet below sea level.

While there, you explore the Ngorongoro conservation area on a game drive and you will be able to spot the mighty herds of wildebeests and zebras, pride of lions, all the other notable members of the African big 5, big packs of hyenas, serval cats and many more. Later on, you will have a picnic lunch break near the mighty hippo pool as you watch them wallowing in the cool water. Afterward, you will go birding at Lake Magadi where you will be able to view a vast number of bird species including the colorful bright pink flamingos, pelicans, crimson-rumped waxbill, and Taita fiscal among others. After seeing the best of Ngorongoro, you will return to Arusha and you will be dropped off either at the Airport or your booked hotel.
