Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo National Park is situated in the southern region of Uganda in Kiruhura district. It covers a total expanse of 260 sq kilometers. It is after the renowned Lake Mburo which is located inside this park that the national park was named after. The park has numerous animal species that are only unique to this area. Among them are zebras, impals, buffaloes, common duikers, Bahor reedbuck and many birds. Lake Mburao is recognized as the finest place in Uganda that you can find the large eland antelope, topi, acacia related birds, zebras and impalas. The sitatunga antelope inhabits the swamp and the Klipspringer is once in a while seen in the rocky areas. There are 2 diurnal primates in Lake Mburo Park: the olive baboon and the Vervet monkey.
BIRDS IN LAKE MBURO
There are more than 300 recognized bird species in the park which include the White-winged Warblers, Crested Francolin, Red-necked Spur, Temminck’s Courser, Greenwood Hoopoe, Barefaced-Go-away bird, Nubian Woodpecker, Lilac-breasted Roller, Red-necked spur fowl, African wattled Plover Rufous napped, Black-billed Barbet, Brown Parrot, Emerald spotted Wood Dove, common Quails, Blue napped Mouse bird, African-grey Hornbill, Trilling Cisticola, Coqui Francolin, Black-Bellied Bustard, Flappet larks, Southern Red Bishop, Rufous-chested Swallow and the uncommon Shoebill stork. The swamps hide secretive six papyrus species like gonolek, blue-headed coucal, white-winged, and papyrus yellow warblers.
LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
The five lakes in this area attract numerous hippopotami, crocodiles and water birds. These lakes offer grand opportunities for improvement of recreation activities like swimming, sport fishing and boat riding.
LAKE MBURO ACCESSIBILITY
The park can reached through road transport, driving from Kampala to the park taking close to four hours via the Kampala-Mabarara highway.
WILD GAME VIEWING
Game viewing is the main tourist activity in this place. The drive gives you the opportunity to view the rich biodiversity in this stunning park.there are more than 60 mammal species and among the popularly seen mammals are zebras, leopards, impalas, hyenas topis, roan antelopes and jackals to mention a few.
NATURE TRAILS IN MBURO PARK
There are numerous nature trails designed in the park to give visitors an opportunity to trek through the various regions in the park as they marvel at the at the animals and the unique flora of the park. These nature walks are conducted with the guidance of well skilled guides who are also armed to ensure the safety of the visitors ass they enjoy their safari.
RUBANGA FOREST WALK
These walks are commonly arranged in Rubanga forest which has a variety of birds and different tree species. The forest has about 40 recognized bird species.

There are exhilarating boat trips arranged on the lake. There you will catch sight of the great plant species and animal varieties such as crocodiles, hippos and birds like cormorant, heron, fish eagle and the black crake.
Because of the presence of the five lakes, the park offers wonderful fishing opportunities to the visitors who are interested in fishing. There are close to 6 different fish species in Lake Mburo such as tilapia, mudfish, ling fish and haplochromes.
The most exhilarating economic activity in this park region is salt licking. There is a wooden plat form on which visitors will be able to stand and view more than four different types of animals licking the salty soil. The wooden platform operates as a hideaway so that visitors can view the animals without the animals’ consciousness.
