Uganda,Rwanda and Congo are the only countries blessed to have the rare mountain gorilla in the World but still, their number is quite less than 700 and this makes them very endangered. These gentle giants are said to be living in the dense tropical forests of Africa, you will visit the impenetrable forest of Uganda in Bwindi to see one of the families of the mountain gorilla. While its easier to see the mountain gorillas in Rwanda, the trek to see the same gorillas in Bwindi is quite adventurous.

Tours within the forest take a day, involving tracking the gorillas from where they were last seen. The least safari package to see the mountain gorillas is 3 days but you can as well combine your gorilla trek with other wildlife safaris in Uganda..

Day One; Departures from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable Forests

The journey from Kampala to south western Uganda is more than 7 hours. There are stops and lunch en-route. There are lots of things to enjoy on the journey such as the rolling hills of Kigezi, the Equator crossing and many others.

Arrival at the overnight lodging facility is late in the afternoon. There is plenty of accommodation at the Park and in Kisoro town. Some of the hotels include Bwindi Eco-lodge, Nkuringo Lodge, Clouds Lodge Bwindi and Buhoma Community rest camp among many others. Dinner and accommodation is available in luxury up-market facilities, standard Bwindi lodges and budget camping options.

Day Two; Gorilla Tracking

The day begins with an early breakfast and then a walk to the park head quarters for a short briefing session and meeting with your ranger guides. Groups of eight people are made for each gorilla family to be tracked and allocated an armed ranger guide to lead them.

As you walk in the forest, take note of the unique plants, butterflies, mammals and birds in the forests. Feel and smell the aura of the forest vegetation…unique to just Bwindi! On seeing the gorillas, tourists have just one hour to interact with the giant apes, take their pictures and take note of the apes’ behavioral traits.

A village walk in the evening introduces you to the people and cultures of the Batwa and Bafumbira people that live near the park.

Day Three:

After breakfast, it is time to package language and head for Kampala for the return flights at Entebbe. Lunch break is in Mbarara town or at the Equator crossing near Masaka.

The charges for gorilla safaris in Uganda include transfers, tour guides, supplies, accommodation and game drives. All prices do not include drinks and tips for tour guides
